I’ve made a new friend.
That sounds small, or even as if it means something else. But it is a rare occurrence I think. What starts as chit chat on common ground, then noticing shared experiences and interests, suddenly becomes something else entirely. A creative spark. Then another. Then the unmistakable feeling that something is catching fire. It sounds terribly romantic but this is a passion derived of something so rare I don’t think science has an explanation for it.
I’ve always believed that creativity can be many things, singular, collaborative and universal. And when it’s collaborative I think it is amplified. Either that or two people just encouraging a stream of crazy ideas. Either way it’s fun and it’s the feeling of being really awake in your own mind.
This is how it’s happened and become the realisation that there’s a wildfire gathering. It rages unchecked, finding new paths to stream away into new area but all the while gradually creeping forward until…. Tadaaaa, lets work on something. We had both been thinking this was a good idea.
With all that wildfire it’s also a little like a drug, I want to have a little bit more of that dopamine-inducing input and the pleasure that comes with it. Scribbling notes in terrible handwriting and chatting until unreasonable hours about the ideas clamouring for space.
So a new project has begun. Two voices. Two minds. Two realms of interest and experience which seem to collide and sometimes circle around one another, overlapping and enfolding concepts and it is is a thrill.
I’ve found myself reading in strange directions. Women whose names were buried or distorted. Men whose authority has shaped centuries of stories until the origin is almost erased. Power, blood and memory and a new interpretation of the events… or are we really just spilling a truth in a new and dangerous way?
I have a notebook with pages of notes, ideas gathering, concepts noted to be pursued later. And the first version of a beginning with a brief record of a new fictional lore. For now, that’s enough.
More soon.
